Plymouth Doulas

about crop Plymouth Doulas

Plymouth Doulas provides antenatal, birth and postnatal support in Devon and Cornwall.  Having a doula present during labour can improve a woman’s birthing experience.

Plymouth Doulas was established by Rhian Ward and Mel Doidge to provide birth support to families in Plymouth and the surrounding areas of Devon and Cornwall.  At Plymouth Doulas we offer you a unique service depending on your needs and hopes for your birth.  Every birth is different and all families have different ideals, so we tailor our  doula services so we can meet your needs.  During the antenatal period we offer you a no obligation meeting so you find out more about us and if hiring a doula is right for you.

Research shows  that having a doula present shortens the length of labour, decreases the pain medication required and reduces the need for cesarean section by 50%.  It also enhances bonding and breast feeding.  Building a relationship with your doula during the antenatal period means you benefit from one to one continuous support during labour, by someone you know and trust.

Your doula works alongside your midwives and doctors during labour, to provide the necessary components of a safe and satisfying birth experience.  Doulas have no training or responsibility for any of the clinical side of your pregnancy or birth.  The support provided by your doula is emotional and practical.

At Plymouth Doulas we are able to signpost you to other antenatal and postnatal services within Devon and Cornwall, so you can make informed decisions leading to the best possible birth outcome and the healthiest possible start in life for you and your baby.
